The International Organization for Migration (IOM) said 83 survivors swam to the shore after Wednesday's sinking and were being helped by its authorities in the northern city of Nouadhibou.

Survivors disclosed to IOM that in excess of 150 travelers, including ladies and kids, were on board the vessel that left from Gambia on November 27. The vessel was coming up short on fuel before it sank as it moved toward the Mauritania coast, IOM stated, refering to survivors.

An unknown number of harmed individuals were taken to a medical clinic, and others are being helped by experts in Mauritania and authorities speaking to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, as per IOM.

"The Mauritanian specialists are proficiently organizing the reaction with the organizations at present in Nouadhibou," IOM Mauritania Chief of Mission Laura Lungarotti said in a news discharge.

"Our basic need is to deal with each one of the individuals who endure and present to them the help they need."

The pontoon was set out toward Spain's Canary Islands off Africa's northwest coast, IOM said.
